Video: Gary Houston & Rayah Houston and White Boys

On the second episode of "Houstons: On Our Own" there is a scene where several members of the extended family are hanging around talking.  The subject turns to Rayah Houston and her liking or trying to impress boys at school.

 Her father, Gary Houston is in the room and speaks up and says that Rayah had better not bring home a white boy.  The people in the room laughed it off, but I felt that the comment was kind of uncomfortable because if the races were flipped around and a white father told his daughter that he didn't want her dating any black boys, they would be labeled racists and black people would be complaining about him being prejudiced.

I don't doubt that white fathers all over the nation tell their daughters "Don't bring home a black boy" in so many words.  Actually, they may use the N-word in that command.  But I don't think that makes it right or okay for Gary to tell Rayah that she shouldn't date white boys.
